What are listing fields?
Listings fields are sections of information on a listing page. They are a part of the form sellers fill out when creating a new listing and what users see when they visit a listing page. For example, the listing title is a field, as are the description, price, location, and so on.
Here's an example of a listing without any custom fields:
As you can see, only the social media share buttons without additional information are present.
Default listing fields
Every Sharetribe Go marketplace has a set of predetermined listing fields that cannot be removed. These are Listing title, Price, Detailed description, Expiration date, Location, and Image. Three of them have a setting that can be changed:
Price: You can make the price a search filter so that users can filter by price.
Expiration date: You can make it mandatory for sellers to add an expiration date, after which the listing will close automatically. The default is set to three months.
Location: You can make the location mandatory.
Custom listing fields
In addition to the default fields, you can also add custom listing fields. These are Text, Number, Dropdown, Checkbox, and Date. Read more about them in this article! Below, you can see an example of how a listing might look with custom fields:
Compared to the earlier example, there's much more information shared about the listing. The information in the fields helps buyers find what they're looking for and learn more about the listing they are considering purchasing.
What are filters?
Filters are listing fields used as search parameters. Filters are displayed on your marketplace's homepage, and users can use them to narrow down their search.
Using a listing field as a filter is an option for some field types, namely number, dropdown, and checkbox.
Here you can see the difference between not having and having filters on your marketplace.
In this example, no listing fields used as filters:
