If you don't have a domain, you might want to consider buying one from Hover. Click this link to find out how to buy your domain from Hover.

You normally need to configure your DNS records and make your domain name point to Sharetribe servers. However, if you use any of the links to Hover in this article and purchase your domain from Hover, your DNS configuration should already be set. If you already have a domain with them, follow these instructions to set up your own domain for your marketplace when using Hover as your registrar. Note that it may take up to 48 hours before these changes work across the internet.

After your DNS settings have been updated, visit the "General / Domain" page on your Admin panel to check them and start using your custom domain.

If you don't purchase the domain from this link or one of the above, you can follow the instructions below and also read the official Hover documentation, if needed.

Please note that the following instructions only apply to marketplaces under a Pro or above subscription.

Instructions for a www subdomain and the root domain

Follow these instructions to set up your marketplace at a domain like http://www.mymarketplacedomain.com. If you want to use another subdomain (like http://marketplace.mydomain.com), jump down a bit for instructions on how to use other subdomains.

  1. Sign in to Hover.com. If you're already signed in, click on "Your Account -> Domains".

  2. Click on the domain that you want to use.

  3. Click the "DNS" tab.

  4. Find the row which has "*" as Host and "A" as Records. Delete the row—it's a default setting that is not needed.

  5. Click "Add new".

  6. For Hostname, use "www". If you don't want to use a "www" subdomain, you can skip this and the following steps and just make the A record change in the last step.

  7. For Record Type, choose "CNAME".

  8. For Target Host, use "proxy.sharetribe.com." (note the period in the end!).

  9. Click Save.

  10. If you want to make your domain work without a subdomain (such as www), find the row that has "@" as the Host and "A" as Records, and edit that row. Change the IP address to "52.202.58.6" or "52.202.50.54".

Instructions for other subdomains

If you want to set up your marketplace at a subdomain like http://market.mydomain.com (as opposed to http://www.mymarketplace.com), follow these instructions.

  6. For Hostname, use the subdomain that you want to use. For example, if you want your subdomain to be market.mydomain.com, use "market" as the Hostname.

  7. For Record Type, choose "CNAME".

  8. For Target Host, use "proxy.sharetribe.com." (note the period in the end!).

  9. Click Save.

After your DNS settings have been updated, visit the "General / Domain" page on your Admin panel to check them and start using your custom domain.
