When users buy items in your marketplace, they sometimes need the seller to send it by post. Sharetribe supports specifying whether an item can be shipped or not.

Shipping management

Two shipping types can be applied to listings:

  • delivery (which includes a delivery fee)

  • pickup (no extra fee)

The seller can choose the allowed delivery options: shipping, pickup, or both.

If shipping is selected, the seller can define a shipping fee, which is then automatically added to the purchase price. If the "Per unit" pricing unit is enabled for the listing Order type, the seller can also define a separate shipping fee for additional items.

The shipping address is collected automatically from the buyer when he makes the payment.

How to enable shipping in your marketplace

Shipping can be enabled or disabled for each order type. You can learn more about order types here.

Commissions and shipping fees

If you take a commission in your marketplace, this fee only applies to the amount before shipping.

However, the payment provider's possible payment processing fees are taken from the total amount paid, including the shipping fee.

Benefits from PayPal protection

When a seller and buyer use PayPal as the payment provider, they are eligible for PayPal buyer & seller protection. PayPal protection also covers shipping-related issues.

The address used in the shipping process

When buyers go through the payment, they have to enter their address along with their payment method. This is the address shown to the seller.

Printing the shipping label

PayPal also provides some additional features related to shipping, such as purchasing and printing a shipping label. The seller can print the packing slip from the PayPal interface and send the shipping tracking number to the buyer. See https://www.paypal.com/shipping to learn more.
